The Casablanca Court of Appeal refused journalist Souleiman Raissouni to be granted temporary release, after the petition submitted by his defense committee on Tuesday.
This refusal comes after the first session of Raissouni’s trial, which was held yesterday, after which it was decided to postpone the file until next March 2 to prepare the defense.
Yesterday, a number of human rights defenders, activists and journalists took a stand in front of the Casablanca Appeal, in parallel with the trial of the editor-in-chief of “Akhbar Al-Youm” newspaper, in which they requested his release, after he had spent about 9 months in detention.
Many human rights defenders and journalists had expressed their hope that Raissouni would be released, who was being watched for “indecent assault with violence and detention,” and that he would defend his innocence from the position of freedom and release rather than arrest and imprisonment, within the framework of complete equality before the law and the judiciary between him and the supposed victim.
