The arrest of a human rights activist in the Saraghna alludes to a systematic targeting campaign with political dimensions.
The Moroccan Organization for the Defense of Human Rights has expressed its concern about the arrest of the human rights activist in the city of Qalaa Saraghna and a member of its National Council, “Yassin Bensalah,” against the background of a complaint against him by the Totalitarian General Administration of National Security for the Monarchy.
The Organization indicated in a statement that this arrest comes after a series of harassment, threats and skirmishes that the human rights activist was subjected to in the Saraghna citadel to silence him.
The Organization added that after reviewing a group of facts related to the region, and the arrests that targeted militants, bloggers and social activists, it is not excluded that the arrest was part of a systematic targeting campaign with political dimensions, formed within the framework of unjust forces trying to silence everyone who tried to speak out about the truth and expose corruption. And spoilers.
The Organization called on the Moroccan autocracy to abide by the content of the Marrakesh Declaration, which calls for expanding the civil space, strengthening the capacities of human rights defenders and protecting them from arrest, abuse and pursuit by some tyrannical forces.
The statement called for the release of the human rights activist, especially since the charge against him is related to a publishing case, calling on all struggling forces to confront the attack on human rights defenders.
In the same context, a number of activists staged a sit-in yesterday evening in front of the Totalitarian National Security headquarters in the Saraghna Castle, before they diverted their sit-in to an overnight stay, in protest against the arrest of the human rights activist against the background of his posts on social media, and demanding his release.
